Snowdon cake made by our 8 year old

This is the Snowdon cake made by our 8 year old (with a little help from Nanny!) whilst we were away!

Video for Sophia from the Summit

Take a look at the video we made for Sophia from the summit of Snowdon!

Snowdon summit

Here is the photographic evidence that we reached the summit!

We went up the Pyg track (steepest route up Snowdon and probably the most challenging apart from Crib Goch!) and down the Miner's track and it took us just over 5 and a half hours including a short stop at the summit to have lunch and make a video for Sophia.

Adam looking pleased that we only have a mile to the summit!

Just the Support We Need

I cannot thank everyone enough who has shown support, sponsored us or made a donation directly to the Sophia's Footsteps website.  Even Sophia herself has made us a video to thank us for our support and every one of these best wishes will make climbing Snowdon on Saturday all the more rewarding.

I must admit with the weather being so atrocious lately and Adam suffering from a trapped nerve in his back it has been a rather stressful lead up to the big fundraising event but now that we are only 2 days away I have to say I am really quite excited!  Plus the weather even looks as if it is picking up!

Tonight I will be packing the bags ready for the off on Friday night.

Updating from my phone

It is only a few days now until the Snowdon it Right challenge and I thought I'd better try out blogging from my phone so i can hopefully update everyone from Snowdonia at the weekend - phone signal permitting!

Hoping to get some pictures at the summit though if the past few week's weather is anything to go by we won't be able to see much.

Looks like we'll be doing the Pyg track on the way up and Miners track on the descent unless we get lost.  Apparently we do need to stay on track on the way up so as not to end up on crib goch.

Getting really excited now and can't wait for the weekend!

One week and counting

It is now only one week until we climb Snowdon to raise money for Sophia's Footsteps.  Tonight we will be planning the route and keeping our fingers crossed that by this time next week the weather has improved!

I am really pleased to announce that we have had a fabulous response so far to our marketing efforts and cannot thank our customers, colleagues and families enough for the kind donations and sponsorship they have already pledged.

So rarely in life do you get chance to do something for a reason - a real reason - to complete a task that has a purpose beyond completing that task - and so it is really exciting that not only do we get to climb a mountain but we get to do it for a reason beyond the exercise, the fabulous scenery and the well deserved pint at the end of it!

If you would like to support us in our cause please do visit Sophia's Footsteps where you can find out more about our cause and make a donation.

2 weeks to go!

We now have only two weeks to go until we climb Snowdon.  We aren't just doing this for fun or a personal challenge as there is a more important reason for this event - raising money for a young girl with Cerebral Palsy.

Sophia is 7 years old and was born prematurely shortly after she suffered a stroke which left her with CP.  She cannot move around unaided but the future is looking bright as she has been accepted to have pioneering surgery in the US which will allow her to walk with the aid of crutches.  The only catch is her parents need to raise £70,000.

This is where the Snowdon challenge comes in.  We want to raise as much money as possible to make our contribution to the total amount needed.  Anything that we raise SEO it Right will match - meaning that effectively we will be doubling the amount.

We would be really grateful to anyone who can support us in our fundraising efforts.  To sponsor us please contact us today or visit http://sophiasfootsteps.co.uk/ to make a donation online.

Many thanks :)

Why this is no ordinary challenge

Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, in fact it is the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland.  Standing at an impressive 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level it has been dubbed Britain's 'busiest mountain' and was used by Sir Edmund Hilary in training for the ascent of Mount Everest.

It is rather fitting that we should take on board this 'walking' challenge given that we will be raising money to help a special girl to walk with the use of crutches rather than relying on her wheelchair and the round the clock support of her family to get around, but this will be no ordinary challenge.  In fact it will be a rather tough one given that climber number 1 - Fran Berry - suffers from the debilitating illness ME.

Although the severity of the illness has improved dramatically over recent years, Fran still finds physical and mental exertion very challenging and despite being given the opportunity to climb Snowdon on several occasions she has never felt well enough to tackle it until now.  She said:

"I'm not denying that this is going to be challenging but climbing Snowdon is something that I have always wanted to do and now I can do it not only for myself but for a really worthwhile cause.  In anticipiating this challenge I know that I will find it tiring but it will be worth it in the end."
